Data Recovery Projects

About the project

Since 1999, we here at A.P.P.L.E. have been making efforts to recover all of our historical data whether it be through tape, disk, or photographic means.  Currently, we have a large portion that needs assistance in recovery.

If you have the equipment and the know how to help the project, please send email to the A.P.P.L.E. webmaster at webmaster@callapple.org.

Status of current Data Recovery items:

Lisa-1 Floppies -- We have about 6 or 7 of these old Lisa-1 floppies.  Whether or not it is realistic to try and recover the data from these disks, we aren't sure but we would at least like to try if possible.

40mb Tapes -- These are Apple 40mb Tapes from the 1980's and we would like to recover all data from these tapes.  We have an in-house attempt at doing this ongoing right now.  (CURRENTLY BEING RECOVERED) (Update:  These tapes wound up being destroyed in our attempts to recover them, thus they will be unavailable.  The tapes basically were so old that they fell apart in the tape drives.)

Mac Tech Quarterly Floppies -- These are approximately 100 old Macintosh floppies in 400k format that need to be recovered. (RECOVERED and BEING ARCHIVED)  We also have received hard copies of several issues of Mac Tech Quarterly and will make those available at a time.

Zip Disks -- There are about 5 100mb zip disks that we are undertaking in-house.

Old SCSI HDD's -- This is two old hard disks which were used on our BBS.  The BBS was PC Board and these are full height disk drives.  One drive is known to have died and the other is the last one that was used in the 1990's.  We would like to recover all data from both hard drives and are looking for someone with the knowledge to recover the data. (Especially from the dead Hard Drive)
