The A.P.P.L.E. recovery project was begun in 1999 by Bill Martens using the materials in his personal library and those items acquired through auctions on E-Bay and Yahoo. In 2001, he received a large delivery of the final 6 years of the Call-A.P.P.L.E. magazines from South Korea. This is when the project began in earnest. In 2001, Bill Martens and Norman Dodge coordinated the complete recovery with Rick Sutcliffe and Val Golding as the main players, along with a host of other A.P.P.L.E. folks. With this reorganization under the directorship of Val, Rick, and Bill, also came all of the software, manuals, and magazines the group owned and published.
The project will continue until all of the items which were available to the membership is available on this web site and its associated CD-Rom. We will continue to search for items which are not yet in our possession. (Any donations of materials from former members is welcomed)
With the addition of the final 2 issues produced before the main magazine ceased publication the first time, the collection is complete from 1978 to 1990. We also have received almost all of the Co-op Spirit Magazine copies, Mac Tech Quarterly, APDA Logs, and Mac Horizons. We are still searching for all but the very last issue of Mac A.P.P.L.E. as well as the Feb 1988 issue of Mac Horizons.
I must mention several people who have helped with this project without whom, the project would have been virtually impossible.
Val Golding Founder and President. Without Val, A.P.P.L.E. may have just remained an idea rather than becoming the worlds largest users group. It was under his guidance that many an Apple author was published.
Mike Thyng Long time A.P.P.L.E. member and contributor. We must also thank Mike for his generous contribution of his personal materials for this project.
Mike Gleeson for his generous donation of the A.P.P.L.E. Peeking at Call -A.P.P.L.E. volume 1 and all of then 1979 and 1980 magazines as well as 1986 product catalog and other software items as well as many magazines to fill our collection. Mike also provided a second copy of the magazines for 1986 through 1989.
John Woodall for his continued support, from 1999 through to present day, through his research and supplying us with everything hardware, software, and paperware, which comes through his office related to the project.
Kim Jung for his provision of all of the 1982 through 1990 magazines. It was through his kindness that we have the entire collection of Call-A.P.P.L.E Magazine.
Paul Santa-Maria for the donation of the missing May 1985 issue of Call-A.P.P.L.E. magazine for our collection.
Lance Volk for his providing us with the P.L.E. software and manuals for our collection
Norman Dodge for preserving the entire software library belonging to A.P.P.L.E. and also for keeping the group alive during its darkest days.
Frank Catalano and Andrew Himes for all of the Macintosh related Magazines
David Craig Without David, we would have been many more years in the creation of this archive. David tirelessly scanned all of the magazines for the archive and several of the books.
William "Bill" Bredhoft and Family for the donation of more things than we can describe in a few lines. It is thanks much to Bill that we now have almost everything we produced in the 1980's.
We must also thank the main Apple man, Steve Wozniak. For it is without his enlightened sense of computing that we had the computer we call the Apple II and we certainly would have been a lot less educated without the machine.
If we have missed anyone here, please know that your contribution to this project has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. We thank everyone who has contributed or helped our project in some manner.
If you have materials to donate to the project either at cost or other, please contact the webmaster at this website.
John Liska for the Diskpak 8 Floppy which we could never place. Thanks to him, we finally will be able to provide this to our users.
