1985 brought changes to A.P.P.L.E., several which were beyond the control of the group. The IRS ruled that A.P.P.L.E. would no longer qualify as a non-profit, so it was re-classified as a co-op.
The expanding group also seemed to be reaching a dull roar. The opening of stores dedicated to the A.P.P.L.E. brands also happened and the group expanded into the IBM and the Amiga computing realms.
